John Watson became a Main Board Director of The Boots Company PLC in 1996 retiring from this position in July 2001. He became a member of Nottingham Trent University Board of Governors in mid 1999.

John graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Leeds University and joined ICI as a graduate engineer. He then moved to Boots in the late 60s where he pursued a career in Engineering, Production, Human Resources and latterly as Managing Director of Boots Contract Manufacturing and Chairman of Boots Print. He is currently a Fellow of the Institute of Personnel and Development and a Fellow of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers.
