Governors and Committee Members

Jonny Ellison
President of Nottingham Trent Students' Union and Member of the Board of Governors

Jonny was educated in Market Harborough at The Robert Smyth School, where he gained ten GCSEs and three A-levels in English Language and Literature, Product Design and Environmental Science. He then attained a place on the Law LLB Programme at NTU.

He became involved with the Students' Union in his first year, where he contributed to the Students’ Union Magazine ‘Platform’. Jonny enjoyed his role and became more active across the Union by becoming involved in societies and playing for the University Lacrosse team. Additionally, Jonny was selected as a Fresher Rep, and later, Head Rep, which helped him to better understand the purpose of the Students' Union.

In his final year, he then decided to run for VP Student Democracy, for which he was successfully elected for the 2011/12 academic year. It was during this time Jonny furthered his knowledge of the Students' Union, as well as his leadership skills, which he felt made him suited to stand for presidency of the organisation.

Running against three other candidates, Jonny was elected as President of the Students' Union in elections that commanded the highest voter participation to date. As President, Jonny is keen to continue the work of the Union, and University, of improving student employability, ensuring the Students' Union is providing services and entertainments that students want, and continuing to feed student opinion into the City Students' Union redevelopment project.

After his year as President, Jonny plans to continue his study at Nottingham Law School.
