Tony Edwards is Managing Director of the Coated & Security Products division of Filtrona plc, the FTSE 250 quoted business-to-business consumables supplier. Coated & Security Products is a group of businesses focused on manufacturing and supplying products, systems and technologies that add value to consumer packaging and valuable documents.

Payne is the world's leading supplier of tear tapes used for the easy opening of film-overwrapped consumer packaging such as cigarettes, biscuits and toiletries. Increasingly these tapes are also being used as a vehicle for communicating with consumers or providing genuine article authentication. Payne also provides premium label solutions to a variety of industries in support of creativity, advanced functionality or brand protection.

Payne Security is a provider of solutions for the protection of identities and brands through products such as data protection films for passports, ID cards for use by national and local governments, security inks and other authentication technologies.

Coated & Security Products has customers in over 130 countries and employs 430 people, 170 of whom are based at the headquarters near Nottingham. It has other UK operations in Banbury and Cardiff and sales, technical or manufacturing operations in the USA, Brazil, India, Indonesia, Singapore and China.

Tony is a Chartered Accountant having qualified with Price Waterhouse in 1988. He then worked for Rio Tinto plc and Norcros plc before joining Payne as Finance Director in October 1993. In November 1997 he became Finance Director of the Filtrona Business Area of Bunzl plc, prior to being appointed to his current role in November 2002.

Tony graduated from Trent Polytechnic in 1985 with an upper second class honours degree in Accounting and Finance.

Tony has served as a member of the Audit & Risk Management Committee of NTU since April 1995 and was appointed to the role of Deputy Chairman of the Committee in July 2005, prior to becoming its Chairman in December 2007. Tony was appointed to the Board of Governors in October 2005, becoming Deputy Chairman of the Board in September 2009.
