Glossary
Advanced Standing Agreement
NTU grants specific credit (advanced standing) to students completing a named programme of study at a partner organisation. Entrants opt to transfer to a NTU programme at a point beyond the normal point of entry (e.g. Year Two or Three of a Four year undergraduate award). Students transfer with credit or ‘advanced standing’. Entry or articulation is dependent upon full demonstration of equivalent prior learning.
Double Degree
NTU collaborates with a second University in order to teach a programme which entails formal study periods in each centre. The student receives awards and transcripts from both or all institutions upon successful completion.
Educational Services Partnership
NTU collaborates with a third party overseas in order to facilitate direct delivery of NTU courses, e.g. on a flying faculty basis. The third party may supply educational services such as facilities, administration, marketing, pastoral support et al.
Erasmus Exchange Agreement
NTU partners with a University or fellow Higher Education Institution under the LLP/Erasmus Framework. Partnership is intended to provide opportunity for student and/or faculty exchange. Exchanges are reciprocal and are based on the principle of credit transfer. In certain cases, students may be eligible for the awards of their host institution (for example, Dual or Joint Degrees).
Note: Presently these apply to institutions inside the European Economic Area (EEA).
Franchise Agreement
The partner delivers all (or the greater part) of an established NTU programme under licence to students at its own site with significant transfer of intellectual property. NTU exercises control of the quality assurance processes underpinning the programme of study and confers an award.
International Exchange Agreement
NTU partners with a University or fellow HEI outside of the Erasmus framework. Partnership is intended to provide opportunity for student and/or Faculty exchange. Exchanges are reciprocal and are based on the principle of credit transfer. In certain cases, students may be eligible for the awards of their host institution (Dual or Joint Degrees, for example).
Note: Presently these apply to institutions outside the European Economic Area (EEA).
Joint Degree
NTU collaborates with one or more universities in order to teach a programme which entails formal study periods in two or more centres. The student receives one (joint) degree certificate which carries the crests/logos of the participating universities.
Study Abroad/Hosting Agreement
NTU provides hosting to students from partner institutions, who study on a non-reciprocal or fee-paying basis. Attachment may be to standard or bespoke programmes and results in credit transfer.
Validation Service Agreement
The partner is validated to deliver its own courses to its own students and those courses are accredited by NTU. The University (NTU) provides substantial input into the quality assurance processes underpinning the programmes of study and confers an award.
