Table Cricket players bowled over by new version of the game – TC20

Disabled youngsters got the chance to try out a new version of table cricket last autumn. TC 20 version was developed for the Youth Sports Trust 2012 School Games programme by the new table cricket National Development Officer Mark Dowling working with Doug Williamson. It was trialled last September at the annual Junior Wheelchair Power Games at Stoke Mandeville, Bucks.

Instead of teams of six, TC 20 involves individual competitors battling it out through one innings each (20 balls) and placing their own fielders. Even though matches are shorter than in full Table Cricket games, players enjoyed the longer periods of batting and bowling as they had the chance to improve their technique.

Doug Williamson, Co-ordinator of the Adapted Sports unit commented: “The initial studies of TC 20 are very positive and the competitors really enjoyed playing. We will now use the results of the study to refine the game format for the future.”
