Architectural Design at NTU: sustainability, creativity and practicability

Our courses show you how to approach projects in a creative way whilst appreciating the technical, social and commercial factors that are essential for the realistic design of successful buildings and spaces.

You will benefit from field trips and study visits, both in the UK and abroad, fantastic studio spaces and workshops, the opportunity to take part in competitions and exhibitions, professional accreditation and work-placement opportunities.

Undergraduate courses

We offer three undergraduate architectural design courses:

Postgraduate courses

We offer a comprehensive portfolio of postgraduate architecture courses.

  • MArch Architecture
    Our Master of Architecture (MArch) is design focused, with an emphasis on the adaptation and conversion of existing environments. It will develop global architects competent to work within both local and international contexts. It is validated by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) to provide exemption from the part two examinations (subject to final ratification).
  • MA Interior Architecture and Design
    This course has been developed in response to the demand for qualified professionals equipped to address advanced design challenges of the 21st Century. 
  • MSc Architectural Technology and Design
    This course aims to enhance your potential to become a leading Architectural Technologist. It offers a bespoke learning experience – you can explore your personal interests.
  • PG Certificate in Planning, Urban Design and Sustainable Development
    This new course develops knowledge, understanding and skills relevant to contemporary planning and development. It has an emphasis on communities, localism, urban design and quality housing-led development.

Facilities

The recently refurbished Arkwright building is home to our Architecture studios. This impressive building, designed by Hopkins, has undergone a multi-million pound regeneration and provides beautiful, light studio space, dedicated CAD rooms and state-of-the art lecture theatres.

Extensive workshop facilities can be found in the adjoining Maudslay building.

At NTU we have everything you need to make sure your CV is bursting with the skills that employers are looking for. What we do works, as an amazing 94% of our graduates* from full-time undergraduate courses are employed or engaged in further study six months after leaving.

Annual recruitment fair on campus
We have excellent links with employers and you can participate in a wide range of employer-led events that will give you direct contact with prospective recruiters.

We hold an annual Property, Design and Construction recruitment fair on campus. Companies attend this fair year after year to recruit NTU students into graduate roles. Take a look at the recruitment fair page to see which companies have attended recent events.

Dedicated career support
Our Career Development Centre helps you to shape and develop your career. They work with you to develop survival skills for a competitive job market. That includes showing you how to tailor your profile, skills and CV, interview techniques, how to cope with contemporary recruitment methods and improving your communication and presentation skills.

Nottingham Trent University Architects' Society

The Nottingham Trent University Architects' Society was founded by students for students.

Former president, BArch (Hons) Architecture student Joshua Potter, explains what the society is about:

"The Society was founded for students with an interest in architecture at NTU and is open to all students at NTU. It aims to educate its members, thinking about what architecture is and how it affects the world we live in, as well as having a good time in the process!"

The busy society arrange guest speakers, provider a Mentor Programme and organise social events and trips.
