What is Hill Holt Wood?
Hill Holt Wood is a social enterprise which operates from a woodland in rural Lincolnshire. The enterprise is multi-functional with aspects ranging from education to timber production all incorporated into the same entity. The group sustainably maintains the woodland it is within while promoting economic and social interaction from the site and the sites resources. The design practice I work within was established by graduating students and each year its continuing success is maintained by two new graduates which operate and run the practice from the wood.
What does the job involve?
The job involves everything from sourcing and submitting design proposals, through the outline and detailed design stages, to the scheduling and on-site monitoring of the design projects. The job may also involve some educational aspects for the young adults who take courses on the site and other site related jobs for presentations and visits.
What has been your favourite part of your Architectural Technology degree?
Although i thoroughly enjoy my degree as a whole, if I were to be specific about one element I would say that I enjoyed my year-long placement and the chance to work in London, closely followed by my final year exhibition and the surveying field trip in our second year.
