Annual study visit
Students on our BArch (Hons) Architecture, BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology and BSc (Hons) Interior Architecture and Design get to take part in annual study visits to cities such as Paris, Rotterdam, Berlin, Edinburgh and New York.

On a recent trip to Edinburgh the students visited the Scottish Parliament, the Mackintosh School of Arts in Glasgow, the Maggie's Centres in Edinburgh, Fife and Dundee. They also visited the Gardens of Cosmic Speculation and the Angel of the North in Newcastle.

The students were set a series of hand drawing sessions and a sketching competition showing all their sketches from the visited places. The feedback from the trip was very positive - they had a good time, made friends with people from other courses and most importantly found it very illustrative and inspiring to their degree.

Annual surveying field trip
BSc (Hons) Architectural Technology also have the opportunity to go on a field trip as part of the Engineering Surveying module.

Together with students from Civil Engineering and Construction Management courses the students had the opportunity to
spend a week putting into practice the skills that they learn in the classroom.

Students work in groups to measure, survey and analyse the extensive youth hostel grounds and surrounding fields. Wearing high-visibility jackets and hard hats to simulate an on-site environment, the students brave often blustery conditions to layout trenches for foundations and drainage for a variety of different structures.

The field trip provides the perfect opportunity for students to practise using equipment that they will use in industry as well as encouraging team work and collaboration across the different courses.
