Position: Assistant Site Manager
What do you most enjoy about your course? What are its strengths?
I most enjoyed the varied nature of the course topics providing a good overview of what knowledge is required to successfully run a construction project. My personal favourite was the residential field course for engineering surveying alongside the group work projects including the integrated project module in final year.
I understand you were sponsored by Vinci after your work placement there. Could you tell me how that came about and what it meant?
I actively sought a summer placement and was taken on by VINCI at a School project in Doncaster. Following three months of hard work I was offered sponsorship by the company which involved two payments during the University term amounting to £1,500 to help with books and other study expenses. As a sponsored student I had preferential treatment when it came to securing an Industrial Placement during my placement year.
You've recently returned to NTU with VINCI to complete some work on the Clifton campus. Can you tell me which sections of the project you worked on?
I am currently working in the management team delivering 727 en-suite rooms at Clifton Campus. My day-to-day responsibilities include health and safety matters, ensuring the work is carried out to the correct standard and keeping the works inline with the programme of works. More specifically I manage the prefabricated bathroom pods for the project ensuring the correct pods are deliver at the right time. I have been designated as site waste manager which means ensuring recycling is at the maximum rate - currently 92%. I also have responsibility for two of the six blocks on site.
