BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Construction Commercial Management
Home country: Malaysia

Peng Yew Woon from Malaysia is in his final year of studying the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment at Nottingham Trent University.

“One of the main reasons I chose Nottingham Trent University is because the course is accredited by the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors. This is important to me because, without the accreditation, I could not become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. I was also impressed by the high employment rate here. The location was important to me as well. Nottingham is very central and the cost of living is very reasonable.

“The lecturers and staff here are very helpful and friendly. They are willing to help with any problems you might have. During lectures and seminars the lecturers always share their own working experiences and this lets us know what is really happening in the industry.

“During my time at NTU I have had the opportunity to do a work placement. This gives your CV a really competitive edge. The placement experience also really helps you in your final year with your dissertation, coursework, presentations and group discussions as you can apply your experience in the workplace.

“My advice to students coming to the UK to study, especially those from Asia, is to learn to cook before you get here! Most of the Asian food here has been adapted for local tastes so if you want some of your favourites from home you might need to learn how to make them!”
