Kean Stephen Lees
Placement: Morgan Ashurst
Placement position: Site Manager
"The most enjoyable part of my construction management degree has been the variety of modules that are studied within the course. Unlike some roles that are more specialised, construction management involves working very closely with architects; structural engineers; quantity surveyors; building surveyors and knowing enough to advise the designers and gauge potential problems. The course prepares you very well for that.
"Nottingham Trent University is widely thought of in the industry as one of the best, if not the best University in England for construction related degrees.
"I have had the most amazing experience on placement. I spent the first two months in the office getting involved with pre-construction and was then placed on a project to build a new extension to a school in Enfield. From the first day there I was treated like a valued member of the site team getting deeply involved in all aspects of the project and I have since been given responsibility for a £1.5 million section of the project.
"My placement has been a big help. I now want to work for a principal contractor for a few years to get some on-site experience, and then work as consultant project manager or clients’ project manager.
"I’m hoping that Morgan Ashurst might offer me a job after I have finished my degree, as they are a brilliant company to work for. Since being on placement, I have also been thinking very seriously about doing my Masters in International Construction Management and maybe a PhD."
