BEng Civil Engineering
Placement company: Ringway
Position: Agent / Supervisor

What do you most enjoy about your course?
"I loved all aspects of the course. It's greatest strength was it's practical nature – you aren't sitting in a lecture theatre 24/7, it revolves around the concept of a greater understanding. You get to do all sorts of things from surveying (outdoors) to Soil Mechanics/Material labs which are always great."

What are the benefits of doing Civil Engineering?
"I think my degree is pretty much a 'go wherever you want, do whatever you want in the world' ticket. Engineering isn't just about building new things, it's also about maintenance. Since Civil Engineering covers almost everything we use in daily life means that there will always be something to do somewhere in the world."

You came in the top 10 for Undergraduate of the Year, what were the positives to come from that?
"I think one has to be the fact that Nottingham Trent University and the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment has had some exposure and recognition. Personally, I have managed to get a point of contact within Laing O'Rourke (award sponsor) which will allow me to stay in touch as well as improve my chances of a job upon graduation.

"It's also nice to know the standard at which the industry thinks I am at along with the other nine finalists. The experience will be great to mention on the CV as well as any interview i attend in the future. To be able to say you are in the top ten in your field can only be a good thing."
