New Designers 2012
Business Design Centre New Designer of the Year
Final Year BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design student Craig Foster won this prestigious award at the New Designers exhibition in London. The judges were impressed with his innovative, flat-pack, self-assembly Kurk lamp. His prize included £1,500 and a session with design sector PR consultancy Articulate Communication.
John Lewis Award
Oliver Hrubiak was awarded the John Lewis Award at this year's New Designers for his Finn chair. He received £1,000.

Student Lighting Awards 2012 - Winners
Nottingham Trent University students have once again outshone the competition in the Student Lighting Design Awards - taking first, second and third prize in the annual event. Furniture and product design student Oliver Hrubiak won the coveted Lighting Designer of the Year award for his Frank lamp, with Craig Foster and Stephanie Casse claiming second and third prize respectively. Two further NTU students, Kiuyu Ho and Jack Hammond, were Highly Commended.

The Power of Aluminium Extrusion in Design competition
Our BSc (Hons) Product Design students achieved first and second prize in this competition. Tom Brittain came first for his modular shelving system, while Phil Riley was awarded second place for his lightweight trailer design.

2012 Design Innovation in Plastics Awards - Winner
Second year BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design student Jamie Mansfield was awarded £1000 and a placement at Bayer Material Science in Leverkusen, Germany for his flexible flat-pack clothes hanger. Danny Lynch, second year BSc (Hons) Product Design was highly commended.

Paul Smith competition 2012
Students from the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment and the School of Art & Design have had the fantastic opportunity to work on a design brief set by Paul Smith.
Second year BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design student Rebecca Ransom was chosen as the winner for her abstract changing room clothes hook design. She won a summer internship with Paul Smith, £250 Paul Smith vouchers and a tour of the studios with a chance to meet Sir Paul.

Grand Design Live - handpicked by Kevin McCloud
Jennifer McDowell, a graduate BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design course recently exhibited and spoke at the Grand Designs Live show at the NEC in Birmingham. Jennifer was one of 10 Eco-heros chosen by Grand Designs presenter Kevin McCloud. Jennifer was discussing her Biobox, a fully biodegradable compost caddy that encourages composting of organic waste in the home and the development of basic gardening skills.

Harbin (China) International Snow Sculpting Competition - 2nd prize winners
A team of students from Nottingham Trent University, including a Product Design student, has picked up a second prize in an international snow sculpture competition.
