Claire Kirby
BA (Hons) Furniture and Product Design

What has been the highlight of your course so far?
My favourite part of my Product Design degree so far was the Paul Smith project. It involved students across both the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment and the School of Art & Design. My group worked on the brief of re-designing a rose fragrance bottle. It was interesting meeting the judges, hearing their thoughts and it really spurred me on to make sure that I handed in a great end result for the competition. It was also really interesting to work to an industry brief and be able to discuss the idea with the client. I must admit, I have also thoroughly enjoyed meeting new people - whether they be students or lecturers. I think the aspect of meeting new people is a key part to my course.

What is the best thing about studying at NTU?
The best thing about studying at NTU is that it's great fun. There is loads of work, you are pushed and pushed but this only makes it more satisfying when you can hand in a piece of work that has your heart and soul behind it. Nottingham itself is a great city, easy to get to places, the hustle and bustle of the city but has the quiet escape in places like the Arboretum.

What do you plan to do after graduating?
After graduation I'm really hoping to go into design for a company. I think that the skills I've collected from NTU will really help me achieve this.
