"I find the course a constant challenge, in a good way, because I am always being introduced to a variety of innovative projects, which I can express my individuality and creativity. I also enjoy the live competitions, which have been organised by the University. In my first year, I won third prize from a competition with a company called Smith of Derby. And in my second year, I won first prize for a furniture design competition with company called Noble Russell. It really helps when you have client deadlines and feedback as it helps us to develop knowledge for our futures in the industry.
"NTU is a modern, friendly and vibrant University, which is ideal for students with its convenient location and brilliant nightlife. The City site facilities are all in close proximity and it only takes a few minutes to walk into the city centre. I also think that the University has very good sandwich course opportunities, which allows students to get an essential head start in their future career.
"I am constantly absorbing ideas from everything I see and then transferring all of my inspirations into my designs. I subscribe to a number of magazines and follow the work of my favourite designers such as Tom Dixon, Verner Panton and Susan Bradley.
"I am currently on placement at Fox Linton Associates in Battersea, London. So far I have worked on a number of interiors for luxury hotels across the world. I have been asked to design pieces of bespoke furniture, which range from a bed frame, chandelier, armchair and a desk. I am also involved in presentation of projects.
"I feel that my placement has definitely shown me more direction for my future career as I have more skills and knowledge on how businesses and the design industry run.
"My biggest highlight so far would have to be my first independent brief of the placement. I was asked to design and conceptualise a luxury suite in a lighthouse, which cost $20,000 per night. I had responsibility of the schemes, fabrics and furniture. I had to present my boards and concept to a director on my deadline and received really good feedback. My concept is waiting to be proposed to the client."
