Placement: DEMAND, Hertfordshire 2007-2008
Placement position: Junior Designer
"I think that the course is brilliant. If I had to state what I have enjoyed most about the course it would be the projects and the modules that we have been set. The projects allow you to really get involved. I think this pushes you and makes you want to continually better your last project.
"DEMAND is a small charity that designs and manufactures equipment for disabled people. It is also a non-profit organisation, which means that the products individuals receive are entirely free. I was specifically interested in DEMAND because of my interests in design for disability and design for need, and not for profit.
"I have been here just over seven months now. I have almost completed seven projects and have three more on the go.
"I don’t like to set in stone what I want to do when I graduate. However, if I continue learning at the same rate I have been these past seven months then I am confident that I will have the necessary skills to apply to any position of interest to me after graduation. I am so pleased that I decided to complete a placement year. I could not imagine going into work after graduation without having completed a placement.
"I plan to complete my placement year and go on to my final year of study. After graduation I am considering to apply to do a Master’s which has always been a dream of mine. However this is still something that is a just a hope and it depends on my final grade (and money). My fingers are crossed!"
