Placement position: Intern Designer
"The reason I chose to study at Nottingham Trent University was because of the placement programme and so far I have not been disappointed.
"The focuses behind my projects are primarily usability and the enhancement of social environments. I would like the products that I develop to provide a better experience for users, or to challenge the way in which we use things, perhaps with view to finding an alternative to what we have come to expect. During development, it is important to me that the products can be made with as little impact on the planet as possible.
"I have been involved in a number of projects on my placement ranging from tableware to a mobile showroom. The studio is great, a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere, where there are sources of inspiration everywhere. One of the studio designers acts as my mentor and is always available to brainstorm ideas with me and oversee the projects I am running. From the wide variety of projects I have worked on, I have improved my skills in a wide variety of areas; from rapid sketch generation and sketch modelling, to research and presentation skills.
"After completing my placements, I am hoping to travel, as I am finding that experiencing different cultures is the best way to learn."
