The property management and development team work closely with the industry through work placements, visiting tutors and guest lecturers, industrial liaison groups, live projects and research and consultancy activities.

We have recently completed a consultation exercise with employers guaranteeing that students graduate with the skills and knowledge to succeed in the workplace.

The property management and development area of the School has strong links with Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) and many of our staff are members on the RICS East Midlands board.

Accreditation

Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors
All our undergraduate and postgraduate property courses are accredited by RICS which will help you on your way to achieving full chartered status.

The accreditation process is rigorous; to ensure that students follow an appropriate curriculum and have the resources required meet the high standards demanded by RICS.

"Doing a course that is accredited is a great way to get involved at an early stage of your career. It will give you a career-path direction, expand your expertise, and provide you with inside information and networking opportunities."

Trish Nicholls, RICS

Guest lecturers

The property subject area strives to ensure students receive the most current industry information and therefore we have a proactive calendar of guest speakers, industry professionals and external lecturers, who are key figures in their areas, to regularly share their expertise, guidance and advice.

Sponsored awards

Our relationships with industry are demonstrated by the value and number of prizes annually donated to the property management and development courses. See the Awards section for further details.

Industry events

East Midlands Property Show
We regularly attend industry events and will be once again attending East Midlands Property Show.

Property and Construction Recruitment Fair
The University also holds a dedicated Property and Construction Recruitment event with leading employers attending this on-campus event to recruit NTU students for graduate  and placement roles.

Last year over 30 prestigious companies attended, including:

  • Atkins
  • Atisreal
  • CBRE
  • Davis Langdon
  • Faithful+Gould
  • Gleeds
  • Knight Frank
  • Morgan Est
  • Savills
  • Tesco.

The events are a great networking opportunity and gave our students the opportunity to:

  • Find out more about careers and opportunities within the sector.
  • Meet with graduate employers.
  • Get expert advice on CVs, applications and interviews.
  • Pick up information on placements and internships.

Live projects

We work closely with the local community and regularly involve students in real projects.

A local Parish Council recently turned to NTU's Building Surveying students when they needed help to re-develop the Cropwell Bishop Old School for use by the local community.

The project provided a strong focus for coursework, with the potential to make a real difference to local people, and 11 teams of second year BSc (Hons) Building Surveying students put forward their proposals for the redevelopment.

Initially, it proved difficult to single out one winning team, so the Council invited the top three to present their designs to the people who will eventually use the building, the residents of Cropwell Bishop.

See the students' work for yourself.

Work placements

Companies come to NTU year after year to employ our students on work placements. Take a look at the placements section for further information.

Site visits

With the support from companies nationwide and internationally we can incorporate lots of site visits and field trips, enabling students to see theory being put into practice. Take a look at the study visits section for examples of recent visits.
