All of our undergraduate property management and development courses feature a one-year, salaried work placement.
Why do a placement?
They are golden opportunities to gain experience and develop your understanding of industry practice. Placements can offer a wealth of benefits including:
- learning the skills that employers look for - confident teamwork, communication and problem-solving;
- securing a graduate job; employers often use the placement as an extended trail for a graduate position;
- testing out career options; and
- graduating with experience and references to include on your CV.
Did you know?
- For students starting their course from 2012 there will be no fees during the sandwich placement year.
- NTU is in the top three in the UK for the number of students on year-long building and planning work placements. (HESA data 2009 / 10)
Dedicated Placement Office
The School's dedicated Placement Office provides assistance for students seeking a placement, as well as support throughout their placement year.
Extra qualifications
Successful completion of a placement year will lead to award of a Diploma in Professional Practice. To qualify students have to meet certain criteria including submitting a diary.
This diary can also be submitted by students working towards completing the first of the two-year Assessment of Professional Competence. This is a period of structured practical training required of all applicants for full chartered membership of the RICS.
International opportunities
Property and construction students work in a variety of industries, and placements are gained throughout the UK and Europe. Some students also embark on international placements in the Far East and America.
Over recent years many placement students have been offered immediate full-time jobs. As a result we now offer students the opportunity to complete their final year of study part-time to allow them to continue working full-time. This option is offered on all BSc (Hons) Property courses.
