BSc (Hons) Planning and Property Development
Placement company: Domino's Pizza Head Office
Position: Assistant to the Head of the Estates Department
Why did you choose to study your course?
I decided to study Planning and Property Development as I've always loved buildings and wanted a career where I could focus on this interest whilst getting the chance to work with a wide range of people. After researching courses NTU stood out as it offered a wide range of exciting vocational degree programmes. The chance to spend a year in work placement was something that would really help me with my career after university.
What roles did you undertake in your placement?
I worked as an Assistant to the Head of the Estates Department at the Domino's Pizza Head Office, in Milton Keynes. The business is a franchise and my role entails handling all of the subleases; processing the legal agreements between Domino's Pizza (the business) and the franchisees who we sub-let the properties to. Also, I managed the insurances for the stores and any day to day property issues, involving construction and planning issues. One of the highlights was visiting one store in particular, as I was given the opportunity to accompany a project manager on site and oversee a store construction from start to finish, up to store opening.
As my degree course is RICS accredited, I am also able to complete one year towards obtaining my APC qualification. This is a brilliant head-start and I will have a variety of experiences to help me gain this qualification. My placement has been very insightful and I feel like I have learnt so much.
