"In the construction industry I think that the only degree that is worth pursuing is one with an industry placement. NTU is up with the top universities for opportunities offered and provides some of the best support in achieving industry placements.
"My placement was with an internationally recognised consulting company called Faithful + Gould, based in Boston, North America. I learnt so much that it would be hard to list all of the experiences that meant something.
"My biggest use of knowledge came from the field of construction technology, as every day I was recalling the skills I had developed on my course to understand the drawings that I was studying on my desk. My report writing skills were also used as a part of my job, as I had to compile two monthly reports.
"For me it wasn’t a case of whether I was looking for a course that offered the placement year, it was which university offered the best support in getting to those opportunities. From my research I could see that NTU was up with the top universities for both.
"My advice to first year students is that despite what people say your first year does count. Employers only have your first year to assess your ability within the field of construction. Start looking early, as the most popular companies, with the best graduate programmes, will look for the students they want at the start of your second year. It’s good to know which company and what area you want to work in."
