Ben ShawShoreditch Hotel School
The project takes an interesting stance in its unusual and multifarious brief. The site contextually falls within a fast developing area of London, Shoreditch. Where its triangulated geometry poses interesting possibilities in building form and the way it represents itself within its urban environment.
Developing upon the multifarious brief, I aimed to draw on and represent the relationship between the School and the Hotel. Each would relate in a manner which treated them as one entwined facility, rather than two separate entities. In doing so a clear representation of progression and association is made, between School and Hotel, Student and Employee and predominately Learning to Working. -

Edward AtkinsAn Architecture Student’s Retreat
The architecture student’s retreat is situated in Duckpool Bay, Cornwall. The project is centred the experiences of architecture and nature. Based on the idea that a student’s creativity is affected by the environment which he or she works in; the Retreat provides an alternative place for creative exploration.
The approach to Duckpool beach is through a deep wooded valley, the site is isolated away from busy roads and high population areas. The remoteness of the site and the natural beauty provides a stark contrast to the urban environment in which the student so often finds them self searching for inspiration. -

Harrison GrootThe Social Network: Larkdale Street Nottingham
For my final studio project I designed a housing scheme of 50 houses in a impoverished and crime ridden area at the heart of dense residential Nottingham. A cycle orientated scheme, It consisted of social dwellings with a privileged communal garden, retail / commercial opportunities and a new square which increased natural surveillance to the area especially during the evening time.
Half of the site was designated as a multipurpose park space that could be used for sports, summer fêtes and benefit the
wider community. The park also incorporated an existing adventure playground which had fallen into disrepair. -

Jonathan IoannouTheatre in The City
The brief was to recreate the Nottingham arts theatre in Hockley, which would be used by students and graduates of theatre orientated art and give people a stepping-stone towards this profession.
Transparency was the original concept. The project evolved from this concept, I wanted to build on existing theory of theatre design by maintaining a separation between front and back of house. However I created excitement and mystery by penetrating this separation in order to add to the journey and intensity of the space. -

Kairo Baden-PowellArt Foundry
The Art Foundry is situated on the periphery of Nottingham in a desolated Victorian lace factory. The edifice has been left vacant since a major fire caused extensive damage and is now home to urban explorers in search of the sublime. The Foundry expresses the external skin of the Victorian structure as lining to the Art Foundry.
