Jenni Wellings: The Walk
"In today's society getting to health appointments can be inconvenient and challenging to those with busy lifestyles. The Walk aims to bring health and social facilities to people in Nottingham."
Joanna Collyer: Scent Lab
"The primary function of the site is for the blending and manipulation of scents by private clients who are looking to create a new perfume. In response to the exclusivity of the perfume industry, the facility also provides the on-site extraction of essential oils. The site also indulges public clients by providing a small retail experience in which a limited selection of perfumes can be sold."
Justine Hall: Synesthesia
"Synesthesia focuses on the unity between sound and vision. I am a DJ and the project considers the different aspects within the technical process which occur when a DJ mixes two or more songs together. The process of DJing can be quite mathematical and this translates strongly into the design. The plan is based around a grid system and uses elements of mathematical patterning."
"The design includes a shop specialising in DJ equipment and vinyl and, in the sub-terrain part of the building, there is a nightclub containing a sound gallery which is open for observation. Above this there are a range of studios."
Lauragh Flood: A Knit to Remember
"The concept behind the project was 'the form of knit, creating the fabric of space'. Definitions of knit such as 'interlocking structures allowing light to pass through', 'weaved and interconnected' and 'repetitive in extended sequence', inspired the forms, materials and lighting I created within the building as well as the bolder structural interventions made."
"The spaces have been designed with flexibility in mind, allowing the users of the building to define the context of their environment. The space houses pop-up retail kiosks, allowing young textile designers the chance to sell their products in this primary retail location."
Lucy Robinson: The Academy
"The Academy is a new contemporary venue for performing arts inspired by Rudolf Laban's philosophy of dance and system for recording, understanding and describing human motion. My design is underpinned by examinations of Laban's four categories of observation. By understanding what Laban looked for when scripting choreography I was able to devise a considered spatial arrangement within my building. All angles utilised are dictated by the dominant shapes the body forms when in motion."
Phill Gaskin: Grain: great northern park & garden
"The buildings incorporated into Grain: great northern park & garden have stood on the Nottingham landscape for over 150 years. Forming part of an important industrial site they now lie empty, damaged and hidden. The project aims to give back the parklands and open spaces that the modern city has stolen from its inhabitants. The site will be transformed from a forgotten relic of the industrial age to a centre of modern communal activity."
