We encourage and support students getting involved in work placements as early as possible and have great success with summer placements.

Summer placements often lead to year-long placements and in some cases sponsorship and a guaranteed job on graduation, as shown in the examples below:

"I have been working for BWB Consulting during school holidays for the past 6 years ever since my work experience at secondary school. I asked for a holiday job and they said yes, it started with just admin work but then they increased the importance of the work I was allowed to do.

"Once I had decided to go to university they offered to sponsor me as long as worked for them for at least 18 months on graduation."

Mark Wren, BEng (Hons) Civil Engineering, Year Three

"My relationship with North Midland Construction (NMC) started upon receiving the sponsorship details from NTU. After an unsuccessful application to NMC for first year sponsorship, I was advised to stay in contact, which I did. This lead to a summer placement, upon completion of this, I was offered sponsorship (course fees paid).

"I was then contacted during the Easter of the second year to act as cover for the site engineer of the job that I had previously been on. It was then just a formality for the third year placement. Again my course fees were paid for by NMC. The final year then saw my course fees being covered by NMC with a contract of employment finalised half way through the year.

"The type of work that I was involved in was mainly based within the water industry. From setting out, health and safety, ordering, site supervisor, first aider and liaising with sub-contractors, the client and designers. Pretty much anything that needed to be done I got involved in."
