Change the way you think, change the way we live
Our Masters courses in Product Design offer you the exciting opportunity to work at the very cutting-edge of product design.

Collaborating on innovative live projects with a wide range of sector-leading organisations, you'll thrive in a stimulating environment of academic theory and radical thinking.

MA /MSc Smart Design
Design the future
Smart design is all about harnessing new technologies, processes and materials to bring the future close and enhance people's lives. Whether you want to design new healthcare devices, high-performance textiles, next generation robotics, intelligent environments or advanced packaging, this course will challenge established perceptions and give you the skills you need to become a true innovator.

We work very closely with major companies including PepsiCo, Unilever and Tyrone Textiles - who have recently set competition briefs or provided student bursaries.

Take a look at the gallery of work from our 2011 graduates - this shows the variety of projects from retail packaging solutions to adaptive buildings and 'smart muscles'.

MSc Advanced Product Design Engineering
Engineering for tomorrow
Working with experienced designers, engineers and technologists, you will work on a range of projects both theoretical and practical, and enjoy access to a range of high quality manufacturing and prototyping systems, and develop your potential as future managers and technologists in the area of engineering product design for the 21st Century.

MA Product Design
You will be encouraged to explore the multidisciplinary field of design and challenge the norms in design thinking. A variety of modules will help you to consider not only materials and manufacturing, but also international design strategies, helping you to understand global market forces.

MA Computer-Aided Product Design
You will explore the process behind the development and production of a concept. Rather than concentrating on creating an actual product you will use industry standard visualisation and prototyping techniques to show how a product or virtual concept is achieved. This course will give you the chance to explore new developments in technology, and apply these to your work.

MA Product Design Innovation Management
This course links creative ideas to business reality. Through lectures, practical workshops and industry involvement you will learn how to turn your creative concepts into commercially viable products or systems. Strategies for commercialisation are considered along with environmental issues such as designing more to produce less. By the end of the course you may have produced a prototype of your product, however the main emphasis will be on your dissertation which will take the form of a business plan.
