Professor Choolheon Choi
Vice Director, Design Innovation Centre for Marine Leisure Industry
Daebul University, Korea

Professor Choi’s responsibilities include:

  • Vice Director of Design Innovation Center for Marine Leisure Industry
  • Designer of Hyundai Coupe, Ef-Sonata, Hyundai Excel, Hyundai Porter, Hyundai Truck (worked on HMC)
  • Judge, Good Design Festival 2006, Korea.

He has lead on the following design projects:

  • the next generation Korean Lightrail and Express train sponsored by Korea Railroad Research Institute
  • 19ft and 46ft leisure boats, sponsored by Master Marine Shipping Company
  • Bay Exploration Ship supported by Sunchun city in Korea
  • Navigation Ship design requested by MOMAF.

Professor Choi has recently received the following prizes:

  • Best Prize, Korean Design Competition by the KIDP with Hyundai coupe
  • The KIDP President Prize of the Korean Design Competition by the KIDP with Interior of Urban Train.

Kevin Brown
CEO, Design Geometrics Ltd, UK

Kevin Brown studied Industrial Design at the universities of Teesside and Leicester. Since then he has spent 21 years working in a variety of industries, including General electric plastics, and has completed over 150 product designs into production for small and large companies, being listed in numerous patents as inventor.

Now working as a design consultant with his own business, predominantly in the fields of mountaineering equipment and industrial safety, clients have included DMM Engineering, MoD and British Telecom.

Recent success includes winning an 'Outdoor' Industry Award in 2008 for his design of the 'Alpine Shield' mountaineering helmet for UK manufacturer Wild Country.

Glenn Johnson
Fellow of Royal Society of Art
Director of Design Studio, B/E Aerospace Inc., USA

The B/E Aerospace Design Studio was founded in 1998 by Glenn Johnson, who studied design and computing at the University of Teesside and the Royal College of Art.

With experience of design at British Aerospace (now BAE Systems) and Airbus Industrie in Toulouse, he has worked on many airline customisation projects and interior design concepts. The B/E Aerospace Design Studio has grown to include branding, interior design, product development and prototyping.

Glenn holds several patents relating to aircraft interior technology and seating systems.

Paul Johnson
Fellow of Royal Society of Art
Academic Team Leader of Product Design, Nottingham Trent University, UK

Academic Team Leader for the subject area of Product Design. Paul manages all academic activities in relation to University and School quality assurance procedures in connection with learning; teaching and assessment; collaborative activity; research; consultancy; admissions; and programme review.

Paul has recently undertaken projects including:

  • consultancy in Product Design through two Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and two spin out companies
  • conducted a Design Review with local SMEs
  • keynote speaker at two international conferences.

Pauls’ major involvements in the external organisations include:

  • panel member for the validation of new courses at Bournemouth and Huddersfield Universities
  • externall examiner at UCE, Southampton Solent and DeMontfort Universities.

Paul’s interests lie in research and consultancy, where he is currently undertaking research in exercise furniture; domestic furniture; leisure craft (inflatables); and rotational moulding/CNC profiling.

Professor Daizhong Su
Professor of Design Engineering
Head of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Engineering Centre, Nottingham Trent University, UK

Professor Daizhong Su is a full Professor of Design Engineering, working in the product design subject area at Nottingham Trent University, UK.

Dr Su’s responsibilities include:

  • Research Coordinator in Product Design
  • Head of Advanced Design and Manufacturing Engineering Centre
  • Course Leader, MSc Advanced Product Design Engineering.

His major teaching and research areas include Engineering/Product Design; Internet based engineering; integrated design and manufacturing; CAD/CAM/CAE; Project management; and research methods.

Dr Su’s major involvements in the external organisations include:

  • Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Design Engineering published by Inderscience 
  • editorial board member of 5 other refereed scientific journals
  • involvement in more than 20 international conferences as the chairman, co-chairman, international chair, committee chair, and committee member
  • external examiner/assessor of postgraduate and undergraduate course in product design and other related subject areas at three universities in the UK.

Professor Zhengsheng Yin

Professor Zhengsheng Yin has extensive experience of teaching, research and enterprise in industrial and environmental design. He also holds the following responsibilities:

  • Deputy Chairman of Industrial Design Education committee
  • Mechanical Engineering Education Association
  • Deputy Chairman of Shanghai Industrial Design Association.

Professor Yin is a member of Japanese Design Association, and received the Education Award.
