Amicus-ALJ at Nottingham Law School

On 1 December 2011, Nottingham Law School hosted a lecture by Mark George QC, trustee of Amicus-ALJ, the UK charity which provides assistance to those working on capital cases in the US.

Mark George of Garden Court Chambers, London is a criminal barrister with over 30 years’ experience. Mark himself worked as an intern on capital cases in Texas some years ago. His talk, which was very well attended by staff and students, dealt not only with the legal and ethical issues surrounding the death penalty in the US, but also outlined how students can get involved with the charity.

Former NLS student and trainee solicitor, Kate Seal, who herself returned from an internship earlier in 2011, also spoke very effectively about her experiences working on capital cases in Oklahoma. The lecture also marked the founding of the Nottingham Law School/NTU student Amicus-ALJ group, which aims to enable students to assist Amicus-ALJ in its work.
