Sustainable Supplier Exhibition: come and talk to our suppliers

NTU is holding an exhibition on the 24 April to give staff and students the opportunity to talk, question and give feedback to some of our major suppliers. There will also be a great opportunity to win an iPod Touch, two Broadstock's new mesh back Energy chairs and a sports bag by Pinfold Promotions.

Over twelve companies will have stands at NTU's Sustainable Supplier Exhibition to showcase what they are doing to ensure their products are sustainable and environmentally friendly.

The suppliers

Broadstocks, one of our furniture suppliers, will be bringing along some of their Fresh range chairs, which have been designed and produced to be 100% recyclable. Some of these chairs have been purchased by NTU and are being used in the Arkwright building.

Southerns Office's stand will highlight issues such as raw and recycled materials used in manufacture and the possibilities for future use of an item when it has been deemed redundant. Their display will also have information on renewable sources, longevity, the manufacturing processes and how to look out for multifunctional items, in order to reduce the number of items purchased.

Other suppliers present on the day include Blueprint Promotions, DTP (HP reseller), SLS (scientific lab supplies), Office Depot, Slacks (carpets and flooring), Pinfold Promotions (promotional goods), Dowlis (promotional goods), Brook Street (recruitment), Solus (solar panels), Hickling & Squires (printing services), Samsung (IT solutions for the Rosalind Franklin building), and Wastecycle.

Comment from Head of Purchasing

Alex McFarlane, Head of Purchasing, said: "It's important to ensure our staff and students understand our purchasing ethics and how hard we work to ensure we are being sustainable. In addition, there is a real opportunity to influence how the University is developing and delivering its supply chain and internal processes to provide sustainable, affordable and cutting edge services to staff and students. We're looking forward to seeing both staff and students attending the exhibition."

Internal departments also attending

Several internal departments will also be sharing their expertise. They include the Equality and Diversity team, who will cover fair and equal treatment of suppliers, SMEs, ethnic minority businesses and the local community; and the Environment team who will be talking about biodiversity. There will also be live footage of the Peregrine Falcons nesting on the Newton building and information on the Big Clear Out and Ucycle schemes.

Sustainable Sourcing seminar

During the exhibition there will be the opportunity to attend a seminar by Future Factory. The Sustainable Sourcing talk will take place at 11 am and then again at 2 pm. Email Future Factory to book a place.
