Tesco Canoe Slalom 2012 Selection Series took place 13 - 15 April 2012. Hosted by Lee Valley Whitewater Centre, it was a chance for NTU canoe slalom athletes to showcase their skills.

With positions available for a range of categories including K1M (Men's single Kayak), K1W (Women's single Kayak), C1M (Men's solo canoe), C1W (Women's solo canoe) and C2 (double kneeling canoe), it was a great chance for NTU's top paddlers to show what they could do.

NTU Alumnus, Richard Hounslow (Sports Science with Management, 2005), excelled at the trials for the 2012 Team GB Olympics team. Richard qualified as the top choice for the K1 Men's team and also in the C2 category with team mate David Florence. Louise , NTU Alumna, was named as the Women's K1 reserve. Adam Burgess, current NTU Sport Science student, is the Men's C2 reserve for London 2012, with partner Greg Pitt.

Continuing on his success, Adam went on to achieve a Gold medal with the Great Britain C2 Team (David Florence, Richard Hounslow, Tim Baillie, Etienne Stott and Greg Pitt) at the 2012 European Canoe Slalom Championships in Augsburg, Germany between 9 - 13 May 2012.

Although many of NTU's Canoeist narrowly missed out on a spot for the Great Britain Olympics team, there were many successes elsewhere. Joe Coombs, NTU Marketing student, achieved a place on the GB Senior European Championship and Senior World Cup 2012 K1 Men's reserves, alongside NTU alumnus, Huw Swetnam (BA Hons Business Studies, 2002). Other notable alumni included Louise Donningon (BSc Hons Sport Science and Management, 2005) who made the K1 Women's team and Laura Blakeman (BA Hons Graphic Design, 2001) who made the reserves in the same category. Adam Burgess and Thomas Quinn (current NTU Business Economics student), made the C1 Men's reserve team. In the C2 category, Adam qualified again with his partner Greg; and Thomas was able to make the reserves with his partner, George Tatchell.

In the same trials, Emily Woodcock (NTU Chemistry Student), qualified for the K1 Women's reserves. Joe Coombs qualified as a K1 Men's senior and u23 reserve. James Bailey (NTU Graphic Design student) and Zachary Franklin (NTU Sport Science student) became K1 Men's team u23 reserves.

NTU Sport and Lifestyle would like to congratulate our athletes on the fantastic results and wish them good luck for London 2012 and future competitions.
