To coincide with Global Entrepreneurship Week, staff and students at Nottingham Trent University will be taking part in an Enterprise Extravaganza to encourage them to think about running their own business.

The event is taking place on Wednesday 18 November and has been organised by the University's purpose built enterprise development unit, The Hive.

Special guests have been invited to give presentations, including keynote speaker Mike Southon, entrepreneur and writer of The Beermat Entrepreneur; Shed Simove, entrepreneur, TV producer and commissioning editor of Big Brother and The Big Breakfast; and BassToneSlap, a group of drumming performers featured on TV's Dragon's Den and successfully supported by Dragons Peter Jones and Theo Paphetis.

The Hive supports the creation of new businesses, as well as fostering the delivery of entrepreneurship education into the curriculum across the University. It supports anyone with a viable business idea and has so far helped over 150 businesses to launch, including wholesale electronics firm, Digicom Solutions, which turned-over just under £1million in its first year.

Phil Clarke, student enterprise advisor at The Hive, said: "The event has been designed to inspire ideas and creativity at the University and to excite students and staff about the prospect of running their own business. We also want to show what The Hive can do for them and demonstrate the wide range of enterprise activity at Nottingham Trent University."

Representatives from the Student Entrepreneurs Club and Students in Free Enterprise will also be attending the event. Information on The Hive's support programmes will be available and a Nottingham Trent University business ideas competition will also be launched.

The event will take place at the University's DICE building from 12 – 4.30pm and is open to all university staff and students.
