To be named as one of the top two student radio stations in the UK is fantastic and it is testament to how hard the team at Fly FM works.

Fly FM, the student radio station for Nottingham Trent University, is celebrating after scooping the silver award in the coveted 'Best Student Radio Station' category at the recent Student Radio Awards. Presenter Martyn Littlewood also received the 'Best Newcomer' accolade, while Sam Jarrett took away the silver award in the 'Best Male' section.

The awards, hosted by the Student Radio Association, celebrate talent and excellence within the student radio industry. Held at the Indigo2 inside London's O2 arena, the ceremony was presented by BBC Radio1 DJs Scott Mills, Fearne Cotton and Greg James.

Along with the awards, it was also confirmed that the team at Fly FM will be hosting the next annual Student Radio Conference. Station manager, Kieran Simpson, said: "To be named as one of the top two student radio stations in the UK is fantastic and it is testament to how hard the team at Fly FM works. We're also very excited about hosting our first Student Radio Conference next year."

Martyn Littlewood joined Fly FM in March 2009 and now presents the Reverb show. He received his Best Newcomer award from Galaxy FM's Sacha Brooks. Martyn said: "The Student Radio Awards are very well respected among the radio industry so I'm overwhelmed to have won this award, it was very emotional!"

The ceremony also featured a radio vs. radio sound clash between big names from BBC Radio 1, Capital Radio, Galaxy and XFM. Andy Parfitt, controller of Radio 1, Ashley Tabor, CEO of Global Radio, and Richard Park, broadcasting veteran and director of broadcasting at Global Radio, all paid tribute to the diversity, creativity and originality of this section of the radio industry.
