Student broadcasters and big names from the radio industry are set to descend on Nottingham as Fly FM, Nottingham Trent University's student radio station, hosts the National Student Radio Conference 2010 from 29 – 31 March.

Approximately 250 students from across the UK are expected to attend the annual conference, which will include a keynote speech from Andy Parfitt, controller of BBC Radio 1, Popular Music, 1Xtra, AsianNetwork and Switch, on the future of radio broadcasting.

Other special guest speakers signed up so far include Mark Goodier, Smooth Radio presenter; Kevin Hughes, 95.8 Capital FM showbiz and entertainment reporter; and Mark Crossley, Absolute Radio presenter and Nottingham Trent University graduate. They will be joined by an array of other presenters, producers and station managers who will be sharing their expertise with the students.

Fly FM's role as conference host comes as the station scooped the silver award in the coveted Best Student Radio Station category at the recent Student Radio Awards, hosted by the Student Radio Association.

Fly FM station manager, Kieran Simpson, said: "We're delighted to be playing host to this national conference and so many key figures from the industry. Their attendance shows the industry's continued support for the ongoing development of student radio and the talent it generates."

As a further part of the University's links with the radio industry, Carole Fleming, programme leader for broadcast journalism, is to join this year's board of judges for the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards.

She has been chosen due to her research in the field of broadcasting and recent publication of the Radio Handbook (3rd edition) which examines the radio industry in the UK.

Carole said: "The Sony Radio Academy Awards are coveted throughout the radio industry and it's an honour to be one of the judges and hear the range of great output on radio across the UK. The Sony Radio Academy Awards recognises broadcasters working on large and small stations and that should be a real inspiration not only to students on broadcast courses here, but to student broadcasters everywhere."
