Research, scholarly and professional interests

Matt’s research practice is founded on a concern with the interrelationship of action and environment, and moves between art, architecture, performance, video and new media. He is interested in the ways that we experience our environment and the hidden histories of the spaces we inhabit. In particular he is concerned with the processes of mythology, and the way that our perception is shaped through the interaction of truths and fictions in terms of our spaces, selves and bodies.

Sponsors and collaborators

  • Florida Research Ensemble (University of Florida).
  • Trent Vale Partnership (British Waterways and Local Authorities).

Current projects

Current work is focused on the performative mapping of place, through the role as a Lead Artist for the Trent Vale development in North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire.

Information for prospective research students

Matt can provide research supervision on interdisciplinary approaches to art, architecture, design and performance, including the integration of practice and theory into a critical methodology for thinking about the relationship between the individual subject and his/her environment. This can be applied into a diverse range of projects arising from different disciplines.
