Research, scholarly and professional interests

  • Porous media MRI of fluid flow
Features of the correlation between the spatial distribution of fluid velocity and fluid density, as measured with ultra-fast MRI, have been established in a spatially heterogeneous porous medium.
  • Porous media MRI of medium permeability
A novel type of MRI experiment was designed allowing the non-invasive imaging of the porous medium permeability, using a direct measurement of the spatial distribution of fluid pressure.
  • Peripheral Nerve Stimulation in MRI
Features of Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS) due to field gradient switched in MRI have been explored using analytical and numerical calculations, and experimental work on volunteers, testing a novel type of MRI gradient coil invented by Professor Richard Bowtell, allowing minimised PNS for identical imaging properties.
  • Acoustic noise reduction in MRI
A novel type of gradient coil wire support, allowing pronounced attenuation of the radiated acoustic noise was invented.
  • Unilateral NMR/MRI
In Physics the unilateral NMR/MRI instrument, the MR MOUSE® is available, and various research projects are presently running on it.

Sponsors and collaborators

Current research is funded by EPSRC, DSTL and Unilever.

Current projects

  • EPSRC, titled ‘Imaging of Viscous Fluid Pressure for Flow in Porous Media with MRI using Gas-Filled Liposomes’, value: £ 100,000.
  • DSTL, titled ‘Dynamic spatially resolved unilateral NMR measurements of liquid ingress in heterogeneously wetting, layered fabrics.’, value: £35,400.
