External academic and professional activity

Phil has a long standing interest in the teaching of psychology at all levels. He was Chief Examiner for GCSE Psychology and then A Level Psychology with OCR for nearly 20 years. He is currently on the Psychology Education Board of the British Psychological Society and chair of the sub-committee that looks at pre-degree psychology.

In 2008 he was the organiser for the Annual Conference of the Association for the Teaching of Psychology and he will also be organising the next two conferences. At this university he is developing links with local schools and colleges to provide support for psychology teachers.

Since joining the university in 1991 Phil has put on numerous CPD events for teachers and also contributed to many other events put on by commercial providers. He frequently speaks at conferences for teachers and also at conferences for A Level students. He has published several textbooks for students.

Information for prospective research students

Phil Banyard has supervised projects on a wide range of topics in the areas of health and education. Most recently the projects have focused on the effectiveness of health promotion campaigns such as anti-smoking messages, and the effect of technology on attitudes and performance in schools.
