Research, scholarly and professional interests

Kate Burnett is an award winning theatre designer working with a wide range of environments and audiences. Between 1994 – 2008 she curated and co-curated four national exhibitions of design for performance for the Society of British Theatre Designers that won prizes in the international Prague Quadrennial .and were hugely popular in residencies at the Theatre Museum, Covent Garden, 1997, 1999, 2003 and the Victoria & Albert Museum, London 2007 – 08.

Her research interests in Scenography / Theatre Design include:

  • Curating & Documenting the processes of scenography
  • Design for alternative spaces and audiences
  • Pedagogy of Scenography and interdisciplinary applications

Current projects

2009, £130,000 Nottingham City Council Post-16 ALIVE project in Work Related Learning. Concept and initial planning with Roma Patel for immersive multimedia environment following research enquiry established in WOW project. ALIVE Project developed and managed by Professor Christine White.

2007, Arts Council England grant £90,000, British Council £15,000 Collaborators UK national exhibition 2003 -07. Nottingham Trent University January 2007, Prague Quadrennial June 2007, Victoria and Albert Museum November 2007 – August 2008 (Society of British Theatre Designers)

2005 – 2007, £56,000 South Yorkshire, Nottingham, Lincolnshire Health Authorities WOW Project in Work Related Learning Environments, (large hospital sets created for 14 – 16 years WRL project.

2003, Art Council England grant £75,000, British Council £15,000 2D>3D: Design for Theatre and Performance exhibition, Millennium Galleries, Sheffield Prague Quadrennial 2003, Theatre Museum, London and touring. (Society of British Theatre Designers)
