Bruce is an experienced PhD supervisor.

His present research interests are in the area of political economy (in the classical and radical tradition) and in the economics of time use. The latter focuses on the labour market, from a regional and national perspective.

Issues of working hours and distribution of income are paramount in his research. In addition to using the Labour Force Survey to analyse this, he has previously published work on the application of game theory to radical economics.
