Job responsibilities

Joanne is currently the Subject Leader for Media & Cultural Studies. Her main teaching is on the level 1 module Analyzing Popular Culture, the level 2 module The Place of Popular Culture and the level 3 module Lifestyle and Consumer Culture. She also contributes to the MA Media and Globalization.

Current projects

Joanne has recently finished editing a collection (with Stacy Gillis, Newcastle), Feminism, Domesticity and Popular Culture for Routledge. She is seeking to develop her work on domesticity and domestic cultures; food cultures; downshifting; and the role of consumption in the construction of second-wave feminist identities.

External academic and professional activity

  • External examining: for postgraduate and/or undergraduate provision at a number of universities (London Metropolitan; Manchester Metropolitan; Sunderland; and Staffordshire)
  • External panel member for validations and/or subject review (Wolverhampton, Worcester)
  • Editorial advisory board member: Scope: an online journal of film studies.
