Congratulations to the class of 2011!

Firstly, a massive congratulations to the our higher education cohort who graduated in July! An equal level of praise goes to the further education students who were celebrated during the Annual Awards Ceremony at Southwell Minster in June.

We are extremely proud of our students and their achievements. It has been a pleasure and we wish you well as you go on to exciting new things. Please keep in touch so you can inspire the next generation to similar successes.

A year of investment...
This year saw the opening of the University's flagship Newton and Arkwright buildings in Nottingham after a five year regeneration project, receiving a 2011 RIBA Award in recognition of its architectural excellence. A hero of ours, Sir David Attenborough, officially opened the building and took the time to find out about the work of the School of Animal, Rural and Environmental Sciences in more detail.

The academic year ends with the refurbishment of Brackenhurst Equestrian Centre which will ensure we continue to engage in cutting-edge scientific research in equestrian areas for years to come. The new Centre is due to officially open on the 15 October 2011 Open Day.

A year of awards...
Nottingham Trent University was named as the most environmentally friendly and ethical university in the UK. The University has now topped the People & Planet Green League for the second time in three years. Published by the Guardian newspaper, the national Green League recognises universities' commitment and efforts in reducing their environmental and ethical impact. This award was quickly followed by Chief Financial and Operations Officer, Stephen Jackson, being named as Sustainability Executive of the Year at the Business Green Leaders' Awards 2011.

A year of new international partnerships...
We were delighted to sign an official partnership agreement with National Pingtung University of Science and Technology (NPUST) in Taiwan. NPUST is a very modern university with excellent facilities for carrying out conservation related research and study and we have already begun a staff and student exchange programme.

We also met many other international partners at the NAFSA Conference and Expo 2011 in Vancouver, and we hope to be building stronger links with University of Guelph (Canada) and University of Buenos Aires in the coming year.

A year of high applications...
Our applications at all levels continue to grow year on year and we would like to thank all prospective students for their interest and patience as we process everything. We wish you all the best with your exam results and hopefully look forward to seeing you soon at Brackenhurst.
