One of the original signatories of the very first graphic design manifesto, Ian McLaren, visited Nottingham Trent University last week to have a tour and meet some of the students.

The manifesto - First Things First - originally set up in 1964 to highlight a humanist dimension to graphic design theory, was reborn in 2000 by Jonathan Barnbrook and Adbusters magazine to generate discussion about the graphic design profession's priorities in the design press and at design schools.

During the visit, third year graphic design students were given the opportunity to present their work to Ian - who worked on the famous graphics for The Munich Olympics as Joint Deputy Art Director as one of Otl Aicher's three team leaders, and for numerous public sector bodies in France. His work is in several museums in the UK and abroad; including the War Museum London, which holds items he produced for CND, The Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
