'Thirsty' entrepreneurs attend Hive event
The Hive’s popular networking event, Thirsty Thursday, was attended by 90 budding entrepreneurs from NTU and the University of Nottingham on 24 November.
Now in its ninth year, the free event motivates students and graduates to become more entrepreneurial and consider the option of running their own businesses. Over the years, more than 2,000 participants with drive and ambition have listened to and learned from a number of inspirational speakers offering advice and information on their various business ventures.
In a change from the usual format, the November event opened with ‘elevator pitches’ from three local students, which was enjoyed by the attendees. The students briefly presented their business ideas in a ‘dragons den’ style pitch and questions / observations were invited from the audience.
Then followed an inspiring presentation by Frank Flegg which was also well received, judging by the number of questions and the queue of people hoping to chat with him afterwards. Frank, a serial entrepreneur and £million company director of Happy Homes Investments, shared his challenging three year journey from being a teacher and biology graduate from The University of Nottingham.
Following the talks, the inspired participants had a networking supper giving them the opportunity to informally discuss their ideas with like-minded individuals. There was also the usual prize draw of entrepreneurial books and a bottle of the famous ‘Thirsty Thursday bubbly’ for the lucky winner.
Adam Roberts, Founder of Hive business, Go dine commented: "Without events like Thirsty Thursday, it's hard for young business owners to meet the kind of people whose help, support and interest they might need. It's also important to demonstrate just how much The Hive is adding to the local business scene, particularly for young entrepreneurs."
The next Thirsty Thursday event will take place on 1 March 2012, look out for further details soon on The Hive website.
