Six third year NTU students have been shortlisted as finalists in a design competition by bespoke formal shirt brand Hawes & Curtis.

The competition

The competition, to support local fashion talent, gives the fashion design students the opportunity to design a shirt that will sit alongside the Hawes & Curtis men’s and ladies premium fashion range.

The finalists - Rachael Bailey, Alex Quy, Amy Terrell, Georgina Chapman, Charlotte Woods, Megan Stanley – will now make up samples of their designs, which will then be displayed in Hawes & Curtis’ Nottingham store front windows for customers to vote on their favourite.

The winning design will be put into production and sold in selected Hawes & Curtis stores, including the Jermyn Street London flagship store, the local Nottingham store, and online. Students have to prepare research boards and sketches for entries in the competition and this year Hawes & Curtis are also hoping for strong competition in the men’s section.

Comment from the judge

Hawes & Curtis Area Manager and judge, Sarah Meese said: “We're keen to support up and coming talent and to give fashion students an opportunity to have their ideas produced and sold, giving them an edge in a very competitive industry.

“The standard has been extremely high and it’s going to be difficult choosing an overall winner. I wish all the students the best of luck in the competition and would encourage local shoppers to come down to the store and check out the amazing designs.

View the designs

The public can view this year’s final designs from 1 March at the Hawes & Curtis store based in the Exchange Arcade, Nottingham. The store is open Monday to Saturday 9.30 am to 6.30 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.
