Nottingham Trent University has appointed Kathie Moore as the new Dean of its School of Social Sciences. Kathie has joined from De Montfort University where she had worked for almost 20 years, most recently as the head of the School for Applied Social Sciences.
Kathie initially worked for the NHS for 13 years, qualifying as a nurse before being appointed as project lead on two large-scale projects developing clinical IT systems for the Department of Health and the Royal London Hospital Trust. She later joined De Montfort University where she fulfilled numerous roles including acting dean for the Faculty of Health and Life Sciences.
During this time Kathie was also the academic lead for the faculty, responsible for leading on the development of a faculty strategy and curriculum for inter-professional education and practice. The development of strategic partnerships was a critical aspect of Kathie's role, including the leadership of the contract with Leicestershire Constabulary and the primary care contract with the East Midlands Healthcare Workforce Deanery.
Kathie studied social sciences as an undergraduate, research methods in health as a postgraduate and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Continuing Education (PGCCE).
Her research interests include the development of new professional programmes; research methods and statistics; inter-professional education and working and professional power and autonomy.
"I am extremely proud to have joined Nottingham Trent University and to be leading the School of Social Sciences, which is held in such high esteem," said Kathie.
She added: "The courses here are delivered by experts from both academic and professional backgrounds and the teaching is informed by internationally-recognised research that prepares graduates for their future careers and further study. Our aim is to be recognised as a centre of excellence and a school that offers practical real world solutions across a broad range of social issues and challenges.
"This as an exciting yet challenging leadership and management position in which I hope to further enhance the student and staff experience and the excellent reputation of both the school and the university."
Kathie replaces Professor Chris Pole as dean of the School of Social Sciences, who was previously appointed to the university's senior management team as Pro Vice-Chancellor Academic.
