New dean for university's School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment
Peter Westland
Nottingham Trent University has appointed Peter Westland as the new dean of its School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. Peter was formerly assistant dean for external affairs at Sheffield Hallam University, with responsibility for regional, national and international business development opportunities.
Peter obtained a BSc (Hons) in Building Technology in 1981 and went on to work on large scale community projects as a surveyor for the London Borough of Southwark. He then became a senior surveyor for London based property consultancy Elliot Son and Boyton before setting up his own practice in 1988, managing projects for both private and public sector clients.
In 1991 Peter became a lecturer on the built environment programme at Sheffield Hallam University, and after a number of promotions, progressed to the senior position of head of division (architecture, construction and surveying) and then assistant dean. During this time he obtained an MBA, and published several research papers on the environmental impact of the construction industry. Peter is a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, a member of the Chartered Institute of Building and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
Peter said: "Nottingham Trent University is going through some fantastic developments at the moment. I have been so impressed by the staff and students that I have met, and the investment in facilities and accommodation by the University is inspirational. The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment is in a strong position to develop its already impressive reputation, and I'm looking forward to working with and supporting my new colleagues in producing high calibre graduates and a first class student experience.”
Peter replaces Professor Gordon Kennedy as dean of the School, who left Nottingham Trent University earlier this year.
