University wishes ice dancing students good luck
Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland training at the National Ice Centre
Nottingham Trent University is wishing two of its students 'good luck', as they prepare to compete in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Penny Coomes and Nick Buckland are the first ice dancing pair from Nottingham to take part in the international competition since Torvill and Dean famously won gold more than 25 years ago.
Since securing their place in the Great Britain team back in November 2009, second year psychology student Penny, and her partner Nick – a final year law student - have been training hard for what will be the biggest sporting occasion of their lives. With the competition now less than two weeks away, Nottingham Trent University's students and staff are proudly wishing them farewell and the very best of luck.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Neil Gorman, said: "On behalf of all the students and staff of Nottingham Trent University, I'd like to wish Penny and Nick every success and congratulate them on having realised their dream of competing in the Winter Olympics. We're all extremely proud that two of our students have achieved this standard of sporting excellence in this way."
Penny and Nick flew out to Vancouver on Wednesday 10 February and are scheduled to compete on Friday 19 and Sunday 21 February.
