The need for well-designed places that support the creation of sustainable communities remains a key objective of the Planning system. It continues to be a constant challenge for all those involved in shaping new and remodelled environments with a focus on residential development.
Set in the context of challenging economic conditions, reductions in public expenditure, the new National Planning Policy Framework and the localism agenda, the course builds on established urban design guidance and best practice - designed with full-time practitioners in mind.
This course, delivered by leading planning and residential development professionals over nine, one-day contact sessions, will develop skills and knowledge of:
- urban design and master planning
- the government’s localism agenda and currently proposed changes to the planning system
- ways of creating community engagement and empowerment
- evaluation of existing residential developments
- evaluation of new housing schemes using the ‘Building for Life’ criteria and other assessment systems.
