About the course
The LLB (Hons) degree is a Qualifying Law Degree for professional purposes, allowing you to go on to further training to become a solicitor or barrister, or into a wide range of careers in industry and the public services. It is studied over three years and designed to provide you with exciting options and opportunities in your second year.
In the second year you choose between two pathways. On the year-long pathway you study in-depth legal modules covering a range of key skills including negotiation, mooting and professional advice. On the alternative half-way pathway you combine the study of core modules in the first half of the year with opportunities for overseas study, work experience and business related modules in the second half of the year.*

Modules
In Year one students study compulsory modules. In Year two you choose between two pathways. On pathway 1 you study in-depth year long modules. Pathway 2 modules run for half the academic year: you will study compulsory modules in the first half of the year and take optional modules in the second half of the year which will enhance your study.
In Year three students study one compulsory module and five optional modules which enable them to develop their own legal interests. The compulsory modules include the foundation modules required by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board to ensure that students have the opportunity to be awarded a Qualifying Law Degree for professional practice.

Employability
In 2008/09, 95% of Nottingham Trent University graduates* from full-time undergraduate courses were employed or undertaking further study six months after leaving.

Certificate in Professional Practice
At the end of Year One, you can apply to enrol on the Certificate in Professional Practice. This additional qualification awarded by Nottingham Trent University enables students to further their work-based skills.
For the Certificate you will need to undertake independent mini placements during vacations (amounting to at least ten weeks in total) in order to gain work experience in a professional environment. You will receive an introduction to the Certificate in the first year through the Professional Environment module.

Work placements and internships
Many students enjoy the challenge of arranging their own work placement or a practical internship which forms part of many of our undergraduate and postgraduate courses. It can give you invaluable insight into applying for a job, undertaking practical and theoretical application tests and experiencing what a real job interview is like.
What are the benefits of a work placement?
Practical work experience has many benefits for you. It can help you in your day-to-day studies and is often paid. It can enhance your commercial awareness and your ability to link theory and practice which will be an invaluable skill in your future career. Although a work placement is highly recommended, obtaining one is based on an individual's efforts and is not guaranteed.
Applicants need a minimum of 300 UCAS Tariff Points minimum achieved from three A-levels or equivalent qualifications. This excludes General Studies. You will also need a minimum of five GCSEs including Maths and English Language at Grade C or above (equivalences accepted ).
When assessing your application we will take into account not only your academic ability but the information provided within your personal statement and reference. These should demonstrate your motivation to do the course and any other relevant work or voluntary experience.
