About the course
You can progress to the LLM year upon successful completion of the Postgraduate Diploma in Commercial Intellectual Property. This year enables you to focus on the area of intellectual property law that is of most interest to you, whether on a personal or professional level.
Entry requirements
Applicants must have successfully completed Nottingham Law School's Postgraduate Diploma in Commercial Intellectual Property.
Assessment
You are required to complete a 2,000 word research proposal on a topic of your choice that is relevant to IP law, this forms the basis of your EPW. The EPW is the main assessment method that can take the form of any of the following:
- a 15,000 word dissertation
- a 15,000 word reform proposal
- a peer-reviewed article of 7,500 words.
Study routes
This is a year long distance learning course, attendance is only required at the induction session.

This course is approved by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and the Bar Standards Board for CPD purposes.

Course content
You are required to complete a research proposal followed by an extended piece of work (EPW), based on your chosen area of IP law. During this time you will be developing your ability to use critical and analytical skills and apply these skills in the practical application of intellectual property law.
