- a foundation degree
- a Higher National Diploma (HND)
- as BA students transferring after their second year.

How you study
This course is modular and the majority of teaching focuses on theory as well as written and visual coursework. The course is delivered through lectures, seminars, tutorials, workshops and external study visits.
Year One
This course has a whole range of cutting-edge features which puts it above any other comparable course available in the UK today. These include:
- the opportunity to work on live projects and competitions with established brands and fashion-related organisations
- structured study visits to a major international fashion capital
- unique opportunities to be part of national and international promotional and live events
- collaborations with professional bodies such as the Designer Forum, a boy set up within EMTEX (the East Midlands Textile Association) to provide business and design support to fashion companies, designers, consultants and students.
Assessment
Assessment is continuous and based on coursework.
Specialist equipment and facilities
You'll have full use of our modern workshops spaces, with full integrated IT systems and an electronic student support network.

Course visits and trips
Guest lectures by visiting industry professionals, entrepreneurs and research specialists add to the high level of expertise you'll be exposed to.
You'll have the opportunity to work on live projects and competitions and take part in a study visit to a major international fashion city, such as New York or Florence.

Work placements
Although this course does not offer a formal placement year, students are encouraged to undertake informal work placements and enter live industry competitions. All our courses are vocationally focused and benefit from strong links to industry.

What are the benefits of a work placement?
Practical work experience has many benefits for you. It can help in your day-to-day studies and is often paid. It can enhance your commercial awareness and your ability to link theory and practice which will be an invaluable skill in your future career. Although a work placement is highly recommended, obtaining one is based on an individual's effort and is not guaranteed.

Interviews and work submissions
Selection for this course takes place via statement, interview and portfolio (if available) (UK students), or work submission (overseas students). Once we have received your UCAS application we will ask you to submit us a supplementary statement to us explaining why you wish to study this particular course at NTU.
UK applicants
Our Admissions Tutor will use your statement to help decide whether to progress your application to interview stage. If you are invited to attend an interview, you'll bring your portfolio (if available) and/or evidence of written work with you. Overseas applicants
If you live outside the UK we'll ask you to submit examples of your work (if available) and/or a recent report or essay.
English language requirements
English language entry requirements for courses in the School of Art & Design, and a full list of all English language qualifications accepted by the University are available on our website.
Mature applicants
We welcome applications from mature applicants (over the age of 21) for this course, and will assess candidates of this nature on an individual basis. If you're a non-standard applicant you'll still need to apply by UCAS form but you don't necessarily need to meet our minimum entry requirements. For this particular course we would expect applicants without the formal academic requirements to have considerable relevant industry work experience.
