Research at NTU
Nottingham Trent University values research and those who undertake it. The University specialises in high quality research that is outward-looking and oriented to real world influence, enabling us to make an important contribution to society, culture and the public interest.
In the 2008 Research Assessment Exercise 74% of our Research was considered as 'Internationally recognised' with 8% of our Research considered 'World-leading.'. The strength and variety of research here adds much to the depth, breadth and richness of our academic portfolio. The reputation of our researchers enables us to attract a diverse and expanding population of postgraduate and research students.
Undertaking an MPhil
Nottingham Trent University offers opportunities to study for an MPhil by research in the School of Science and Technology. Supervision is available for full-time or part-time study. Research degree students are financially supported by a range of sources including research councils, charities and industries, overseas governments and self-funding. The University Graduate School also runs a competitive annual competition for bursaries to undertake research degrees. You will have the opportunity to work within our outstanding research centres and facilities.
A strong feature of its research degrees is the development of skills, networks and know-how necessary to build successful careers, whether you intend to stay within academia or pursue a career in another walk of life. We offer effective training and support from friendly and approachable staff, reinforced by strong collaborative links with business, public services and external academic networks.
Carrying out research for a MPhil is very different from being an undergraduate student. You will work on a unique project in a field of your own choice. We will provide you with the support you need, through expert supervision from an experienced researcher, a well-chosen programme of supporting studies and research training and the support of the University’s Graduate School.
You will need to carefully assess the research opportunities available in your chosen area, and we suggest that you seek the advice of the Graduate School in the relevant part of the University. They will be able to put you in touch with a potential supervisor, and will also provide advice about the most appropriate course of supporting studies for you.
